In a significant update from the South Africa national rugby team, the Springboks have announced the appointment of Robyn Moore as the new team dietician. This change comes after Zeenat Simjee, who previously held the position, transitioned to focus more on the Springbok Women’s team among other responsibilities.
Zeenat Simjee, acclaimed for her contributions to the team’s dietetics over the years, opted for a new career trajectory last year, taking on roles with the Springboks Sevens, SA u18s, and notably the Springboks Women. Her decision followed a period marked by personal challenges, notably public allegations, which she successfully navigated, maintaining her professional commitments through the Springboks' recent World Cup campaign.
Simjee's departure set the stage for Robyn Moore, who has been working closely with the teams for the past few seasons and will be officially stepping into her role as team dietician from April 1. Moore holds a Master’s Degree from the University of Pretoria and a BSc in Dietetics from the University of Stellenbosch, credentials that underscore her capability in this highly demanding role.
The Springboks' coaching staff, led by Rassie Erasmus, expressed confidence in Moore’s abilities. Erasmus praised her deep familiarity with the players and her professional acumen, anticipating a seamless transition and continued excellence in the team's nutrition strategy.
Additionally, the team welcomes Lance Lemmetjies as a new physiotherapist. Coming from a stint with the Bulls and previous engagements with the Springboks during significant tours, Lemmetjies is slated to start his role in June, highlighting another strategic enhancement to the team's medical department.
These appointments are part of a broader restructuring within the Springboks' management team, aiming not just for continuity but also injecting new expertise as they prepare for upcoming challenges on the global rugby stage. The management’s ongoing adjustments reflect a responsive strategy to maintain peak team performance both on and off the field.
As the team continues to evolve under the guidance of a skilled and dedicated management team, the focus remains on upholding the legacy and competitive edge of South African rugby on the international circuit.
