Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema has clamorously likened the contentious actions of Hamas in Israel earlier this month, resulting in over a thousand deaths, to the venerable struggle undertaken by Nelson Mandela against apartheid in South Africa. Malema, addressing a crowd of followers outside the Israeli embassy in the South African capital of Tshwane, fervently defended the actions of Hamas, creating a bridge between the infamous militant group's undertakings and the respectable actions of the revered Nelson Mandela.
Israel has countered these proclamations with somber footage, aired to international journalists, featuring heartbreaking scenes of brutality perpetrated by Hamas in southern Israel on October 7. The government aims to refute attempts to downplay the extent of this gross violence, displaying a compilation of horrifying atrocities captured on myriad devices.
Undaunted, Malema championed the actions of Hamas, criticizing those who dared to draw distinctions between the group's actions and Mandela's revered legacy.
The EFF commander also sensationally labeled Israelis as terrorists, blaming them for causing casualties in a recent bombardment in Gaza City's al-Ahli Baptist Hospital. However, this claim was contested by UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, whose intelligence points to the missile's Gaza origin.
Brimming with vehement support for Hamas, Malema promised that if EFF attains power next year, they will equip Hamas with arms to fight for their freedom.
