ANC Dismisses Three Parliamentarians, Disciplinary Charges Loom for Dlamini Zuma

In a bold stance against flagrant misconduct, the African National Congress (ANC) has announced the disqualification of three of its Members of Parliament—former Cosatu first deputy president Tyotyo James, member of the Portfolio Committee on Communications and Digital Technologies, Nomsa Kubheka, and murder accused Sibusiso Kula. These members have been largely missing since May, with ANC Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula spearheading the disciplinary action.

The discredited MPs have earned infamy after neglecting to reveal their fiscal interests for 2022. This oversight resulted in a hefty 20% deduction from their salaries. Kula, who is embroiled in a murder case concerning his wife, Jennifer Motlhomi, was laid with a bail of R50,000 in April by the North West High Court.

Further reparative actions focus on defiant party members who voted contrary to ANC positions in the National Assembly. The ANC National Executive Committee's (NEC) recent conclusion urges disciplinary actions against breaches of party conduct, including such contradictory voting.

President Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma also faces potential discipline following her defiance during the vote on the adoption of the Phala Phala saga's parliamentary panel findings. Other notable absentees from the vote also include Zweli Mkhize, Lindiwe Sisulu, Bongani Bongo, and Sfiso Buthelezi. These events come to light amidst the successful avoidance of potential impeachment for President Cyril Ramaphosa, clearing his pathway to re-election in December 2022.
