Echoing sentiments shared globally, South African political party, the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), took a firm stance on the Israel-Palestine conflict. In a show of solidarity with Palestine amid its ongoing feud with the state of Israel, the EFF organized a massive picket outside the Israeli embassy in Pretoria on Monday.
Party leader, Julius Malema is asserting that progressive governments hold a responsibility towards supporting freedom fighters in Palestine, with both military and humanitarian aid. A pledge made by the EFF, South Africa's third-largest political force, is that if they win power in the 2024 general elections, they will supply arms to Hamas, aimed at equipping them with necessary tools to fight for their liberation.
The party further stated its intentions to pressure the South African government into closing the Israeli embassy until Palestine attains liberty. This demand follows the grim reality of the escalating conflict that has seen widespread destruction and loss of life in Gaza.
Thousands of EFF supporters gathered outside the embassy, exuding a unified show of support for Palestine and marking their stance against Israel's actions. Alongside their commitment to Palestine, the EFF made it clear they would not maintain a neutral position on this issue.
