Celebrated comedian, Dave Chappelle, stirred up a storm during a performance in Boston this week, engaging in a lively exchange with the audience over his views on the Israel-Hamas conflict, first reported by the Wall Street Journal.

According to the Journal, Chappelle condemned the Oct. 7 attacks by Hamas but called the ongoing military aggression against Gaza a war crime, leading one audience member to describe the experience as watching a "verbal hurricane." Several accounts have emerged from Redditors, further confirming that Chappelle did not hesitate to express his views on the contentious issue, criticising violence from both sides.

The dialogue took a decisive turn when an audience member yelled expletives at Chappelle, triggering a flurry of comments from the comedian about Israel, pointing at the silence around discussions related to Israel and transgender issues.

Further intrigue was added when a second audience member clarified the initial aggressive comment was not directed at Chappelle but aimed at other disruptive attendees. Chappelle had misinterpreted the pressure-cooker situation, believing the heckling was for him. The misunderstanding was promptly addressed with security staff, and the vocal attendee and his wife were allowed to stay on.

Sabrina Siddiqui, a Wall Street Journal reporter, provided deeper insight into the incident on Twitter, corroborating the accounts given by the audience members. She cited Chappelle as saying that the Hamas attacks are no grounds for cutting off essential supplies or committing war crimes against Gaza.

Towards the dramatic end of the show, shouts of 'Free Palestine' clashed with calls of 'What about Hamas?', leaving the audience divided over their interpretations of Chappelle's comments. Interestingly, a spokesperson for Chappelle denied his presence in Boston on the night of the performance.
