Eastern Cape Kicks Off Provincial Grain Planting Season: Over 9k Farmers to Benefit from R93m Investment

The onset of the provincial grain planting season in the Eastern Cape has been officially inaugurated at Nkondlo, based in the AB Xuma Local Municipality. MEC of Rural Development and Agrarian Reform, Nonkqubela Pieters, announced the launch this week, backed by a fervent commitment to the transformation of the local grain value chain.

This groundbreaking launch will engender more than 9,000 local farmers, who are set to produce grain over an estimated 27,700 hectares. This significant boost to the agrarian sector comes courtesy of a R93-million investment by the Department. The notable investment ensures that the department places utmost priority on food security, developing agrarian reform, and encouraging the growth of black farmers to attain commercial viability.

During the announcement, MEC Pieters underscored the department's dedication to elevating black farmers to a commercial level. Such a move will not only stimulate economic growth but equally ensure a sustainable food supply, implicitly promising food security for families in the province.
