In an earnest move to address South Africa's chronic load shedding situation, Russian energy giants Gazprom and Rosatom have come forward with a proposal to help alleviate the energy crisis. These state-owned and majority state-owned businesses voiced their interest at the Africa Energy Week Conference during a panel titled 'Powering Africa's future through collaborative energy solutions.'

The Ambassador of the Russian Federation to the Republic of South Africa and the Kingdom of Lesotho, Ilya Rogachev, spoke at the event. He noted the firm and enduring friendship between Russia and South Africa, emphasizing their intertwined histories and the opportunity that load shedding presents for the countries to work together and share knowledge in the energy sector.

The assurances from Rosatom and Gazprom arrive as South Africa tirelessly grapples with routine load shedding incidents, which have disrupted numerous sectors and strained the country's power infrastructure drastically.

These propositions aim at fostering more significant bilateral engagement in energy solutions and knowledge exchange, thus highlighting Russia's commitment to supporting South Africa during its power crisis.
