In a significant move that shook the South African political landscape, popular figure and former Ukhozi FM presenter Linda Sibiya, known for his strong support for the African National Congress (ANC), has switched his loyalty to the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF).
Established as a force in the entertainment industry of KwaZulu-Natal, Sibiya's transition was officially confirmed at an EFF event held in Durban on Wednesday. Witnessing his signing of his EFF membership were high-ranking members including Mongezi Thwala, the provincial chair of the party in KwaZulu-Natal.
Formerly voicing public support for the ex-president Jacob Zuma, Sibiya sparked speculation about his political shift over the weekend when he aimed strong criticisms at ANC MECs. He accused them of developing a sense of superiority from mere 'blue lights'. Moreover, he alleged their intolerance towards complaints from artists about neglect, added extensively to the artist's hardship due to being blacklisted from government events and concerts.
Interestingly, among the attendees at the EFF gathering was Magasela Mzobe, the former ANC Youth League leader who also recently joined the EFF, declaring the ANC no longer aligned with his ideologies.
The EFF's KwaZulu-Natal spokesperson, Mazwi Blose, validated Sibiya's membership to the party. However, Sibiya has yet to publicize his perspectives on his political manoeuvre.
The EFF's surge of influential new members has added Advocate Busisiwe Mkhwebane, the former Public Protector, to their roster after she faced impeachment.
