Brian Mwenda, who surprisingly won 26 cases in three years, has been apprehended after being uncovered as a fake lawyer. The Law Society of Kenya has affirmed that Mwenda is not a registered member despite his successful track record. Mwenda has apparently mastered the art of deception, as he argued and won cases before the High Court, Magistrates, and Court of Appeal Judges.
The phony lawyer saga has erupted on social media, coming hot on the heels of another deceptive disclosure of Matthew Lani, a faux TikTok Doctor in South Africa.
Mwenda's story is stirring up debate among Kenyans. Endless jokes and memes are flooding social media, with some users jokingly suggesting Mwenda may win his 27th case, this time representing himself in court.
The Law Society of Kenya issued a statement, "The Branch wishes to notify all members of the society and of the public that Brian Mwenda Njagi is not an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya, from the Society’s records, neither is he a member of the Branch."
There are disquieting concerns about the potential implications of the "fake lawyer" incident. It warrants prompt action to validate the authenticity of legal practitioners to safeguard the integrity of legal processes.
