In the KwaZulu-Natal province, where approximately half of the residences are without flushing toilets, a peculiar development dysfunction has occurred. The IFP-led uThukela District Municipality reportedly constructed 15 outdoor lavatories for one single rural home. The municipality has expressed confusion over this abnormal occurrence, and an investigation into the matter is currently underway.
News24 received a variety of low-resolution images displaying the multiple toilets constructed on one property. In a baffling disregard for resource allocation, the municipality appears to have gone beyond the pale in its provision of sanitary facilities for a single abode.
Nothile Zwane, the spokesperson for the municipality, did not challenge the assertion on the number of toilets built. She confirmed the allocation of resources to Ladysmith's Ward 10, and mentioned that the municipality is earnestly pursuing an investigation into the matter. It remains to be seen as to how such an extraordinary mistake was made, and what measures will be taken to rectify the situation.
Moreover, this issue may lead to a R15 million garnishee headache for the municipality, adding financial strain on top of the ongoing investigation. The local authority will likely face challenging times as they navigate through this unique predicament.
