A second-hand dealership in Port Alfred became the epicenter of an interesting police operation last Friday leading to the arrest of a 74-year-old dealer. The dealer, whose identity remains undisclosed due to ongoing legal procedures, is facing charges for the unlawful possession of firearms.
The Eastern Cape Police spokesperson, Colonel Pricilla Naidu, revealed that an intelligence-driven operation guided the armed task force to the dealership situated on Biscay Road in Port Alfred. The suspect's premises were thoroughly scrutinized under a fully sanctioned search warrant.
In a surprising turn of events, the search party unearthed a shotgun and two rifles surreptitiously hidden within the confines of a pool table present at the dealership. According to Colonel Naidu, the owner failed to produce valid licenses for the discovered firearms. He was swiftly arrested in the aftermath.
The firearms, estimated to value around approximately R10 000, could serve as substantial evidence in the upcoming Magistrate's Court proceedings. The court case is set to commence this Monday.
The incident warns of concealed criminal activities within seemingly inoffensive businesses and further highlights the relentless efforts by the Eastern Cape Police in safeguarding local communities.
