The South African Ethics Committee has cleared Minister of Employment and Labour Thulas Nxesi, House chairperson Cedrick Frolick, and other members of Parliament, absolving them of allegations of benefiting from dealings with Edwin Sodi and Bosasa.

According to Bhekizwe Nkosi and Lydia Moshodi, the co-chairpersons of the Ethics Committee, the investigation found that Nxesi had not violated the ethics code in relation to payments received from Edwin Sodi. Sodi had reportedly donated R45,000 to assist two financially beleaguered families at the behest of Nxesi.

The investigative body also concluded that accusations against House Chairperson Cedric Frolick over allegedly receiving a bribe from Bosasa could not be addressed, as these incidents occurred prior to the enactment of the current ethics code in 2014. The committee acknowledged that Frolick did not violate any existing regulations.

In connection to former Minister Mosebenzi Zwane, the committee dismissed the need for further probing of his relationship with the Guptas during his term as Minister of Minerals and Energy, as a verdict of guilt for breaching the ethics code had already been passed some months ago. The ethics violation saw Zwane being fined five days' worth of salary and requisite public apology in the House.

Investigations into allegations against House Chairperson Winnie Ngwenya were also dropped. She had been accused by former parliamentarian Dennis Bloem of being involved with Bosasa. Ngwenya defended herself before the committee, categorically denying Bloem's allegations. Accepting her explanation, the committee cleared her of any breach of the ethics code.

In conclusion, the committee stated that none of the four members involved in these investigations could be linked to any of the alleged offences.
