In an unsettling incident that has unsettled the safety of Durban's upscale neighbourhood, a 66-year-old woman was brutally taken from her family in the early hours of Monday. The incident took place in the sleepy suburb of Musgrave, within a security-boosted apartment complex.
Police in Berea are, with urgency, investigating the callous murder of the elderly woman. Colonel Robert Netshiunda, the official police spokesperson, informed The Citizen about the horrifying details. The woman, whose identity has yet to be released, was reportedly stabbed brutally by three unknown assailants who effortlessly infiltrated her home while her husband quietly slept, oblivious to the grim circumstances occurring in his residence.
As reported by the IOL, the tragic encounter occurred near the entrance of her flat where she encountered the knife-wielding intruders who stabbed her in her upper chest, fatally puncturing a vital organ. Despite her courageous efforts to return to the safety of her apartment, she tragically succumbed to her injuries on the scene.
Witness accounts, as collated by the Middleburg Observer, suggest a sickening premeditation to the crime. The perpetrators allegedly manipulated their entrance into the gated community by patiently waiting at the gate until an inattentive resident unknowingly allowed them access.
A heinous August incident, where a woman was accosted and robbed outside a bakery in Musgrave, has exacerbated residents' fear. This latest case raises alarming questions about the perceived security of gated residential properties.
