In a shocking discovery in Beacon Valley, Mitchells Plain, local Western Cape police found a decapitated body at the intersection of Greyville and Metropolitan Streets on Monday evening. Sergeant Wesley Twigg confirmed the investigation is, at present, centred around exploring the circumstances that envelop this horrifying incident.
In unsettling news, as per reports by News24, it was a resident who found the victim's head in a gift bag two streets away from the primary scene.
In response to this gruesome act, the Chairperson of the Beacon Valley Community Policing Forum (CPF), Norman Jantjies has expressed deep concerns. Jantjies confirmed that to his knowledge, it is the first incident of such gravity to occur in their community, where a decapitated body was discovered.
The complication in the issue arises with the ongoing, yet recently quieter, presence of gang-related activities in Beacon Valley. While it's challenging to definitively indicate the relation of this murder to gang-violence, the CPF isn’t ruling it out. The 28s and Nice Time Kids gangs have, in the past, created unrest in the area.
Refocusing on the matter at hand, the Beacon Valley community, the police and the CPF are to hold discussions for understanding the incident better and brainstorming for the enhancement of community support and safety.
Meanwhile, Lieutenant-General Thembisile Patekile, Western Cape police commissioner, expressed his disbelief regarding the gruesome incident in a media briefing on Tuesday. Strongly urging community members to actively participate in the case, the police have asked citizens to share any potentially relevant information.
Those possessing any information leading to the tracking of perpetrators are requested to reach Crime Stop at 08600 10111.
