In one of the prominent events at the ongoing Rugby World Cup, Scotland routed Romania with an overwhelming 84-0 victory in Lille this Saturday. This result has spurred on high-stakes pressure on the Springboks to outperform against Tonga at Stade Velodrome this Sunday, to avert any potential pitfalls in their pathway towards quarterfinal qualification.

The Boks, having previously beaten Scotland during the opening week of the tournament, are now required to triumph over Tonga with a bonus point. While the weekend's murmurs hint at Scotland beating Ireland and denying them a bonus point, the chances of the Boks qualifying for the quarterfinals appear promising. However, if both Scotland and the Boks win with bonus points, the situation will become further intricate with Pool B housing three teams each with 15 log points.

The initial criteria applied to split tied teams is the result of their past matches. However, if the scenario stays as each team has won and lost a match against the others, the difference points would play the deciding role. In terms of points difference, Ireland (+122) and Scotland (+97) currently outmatch the Springboks (+86), further signalling towards the Boks’ need to significantly improve their game against Tonga.

As thousands of Springbok fans in gold and green assemble in Marseille, it is anticipated that the local crowd will largely support the underdogs, Tonga. Retaining an undying spirit for the sport, the Boks' fans have frequented the tourist hotspot, Vieux Port, to prepare for the impending face-off.

Boks alongside the fans who traveled from various parts of Europe are hopeful for a favourable outcome. As Tonga's assistant coach, Dan Cron acknowledged the lesser number of Tongans at Stade Vélodrome, he expressed confidence in the unpredictable nature of sports and their intent to do their best.
