In a dramatic turn of events, Dudu Myeni, the ex-Chairperson of the South African Airways (SAA), and former Sondolo IT Director, Trevor Mathenjwa, were arrested earlier today, September 29th, on serious charges of corruption and fraud amounting to over R300k. The news was confirmed in an official statement made by Sindisiwe Seboka, spokesperson for the National Prosecuting Authority's Investigating Directorate.

The pair were taken into custody and later appeared before the Richards Bay Magistrates Court in KwaZulu-Natal, where they were granted bail amounting to R10,000 each.

"The duo is being held accountable for gratifications offered and received from the infamous BOSASA and its subsidiary Sondolo IT," said Seboka. She further highlighted how Myeni did not disclose her interest in accordance with the SAA Conflict of Interest Policy during her tenure as the chairperson, which, according to the directorate, is a direct contravention of her legal obligations.

Charges brought against Myeni claimed that she received unjustified security upgrades valuing R200k for her residence in Richards Bay from May 2014 to March 2015, all paid by BOSASA's subsidiary, Sondolo IT, under the supervision of Mathenjwa.

Additionally, Myeni is accused of benefiting from BOSASA-sourced R107k worth of hotel accommodation and travel expenses for herself and a host of associated individuals, through Blake Travels within the same said time frame.

Both the accused are due to return to court on November 17th for the disclosure of the case's docket.
