Deadly Collision on Mdantsane Access Road Claims Two Lives, Injures Eight Others

A tragic road collision involving two vehicles on Mdantsane Access Road in East London has left two men dead and eight others nursing injuries. The fatal incident that took place on Sunday afternoon is believed to have been caused by reckless and negligent driving, a major public safety concern in the Eastern Cape.



A Toyota Avanza carrying nine people traveling from Mdantsane to East London collided with another Avanza that had a one male occupant. The two deceased were both passengers in the vehicles.


Unathi Binqose, spokesperson for the Eastern Cape Transport Department, confirmed the grim news, adding that all the injured individuals, which included both drivers, were rushed to Cecilia Makhiwane and Frere Hospitals for immediate medical care.



There is currently an ongoing police investigation to ascertain the exact cause of the accident and to bring to justice any parties found liable. The police are treating the investigation as a case of culpable homicide, as reckless driving is alleged to be a major factor in the accident.


The Eastern Cape Transport Department cautions road users to adhere to traffic laws and urges drivers to practice safe driving habits to prevent accidents. They extend their sincere condolences to the bereaved families, and wish those injured a speedy recovery.
