The South African Weather Service (SAWS) cautioned the public about an imminent “significant” storm predicted to hit various parts of the country this weekend. Forecasters are predicting an intense spring cut-off low to impact large portions of South Africa from Saturday till Tuesday of the coming week. This calamitous phenomenon could bring substantial rainfall, winds, and even turmoil the seas.
These warnings come while South Africa still grapples with the aftermath of a severe storm that besieged its hinterland earlier this week, as well as dealing with the remnants of the substantial waves that perturbed coastal areas the previous weekend.
SAWS anticipates widespread showers and thunderstorms throughout western, central, and southern areas of the country, particularly accentuating from Sunday onwards. The meteorological agency also indicated that strong to gale-force winds can be expected along with very rough seas spanning four to six metres. Furthermore, there are possibilities of light snowfall in the Eastern Cape and Lesotho.
However, SAWS emphasized that these weather predictions remain subject to change and further updates would be given as conditions evolve. The public is urged to stay tuned for more information and prepare for the impending weather conditions.
