A tragic incident unfolded in Van Blerk Park, Mpumalanga last Friday when a newborn baby was found abandoned in a dustbin. A local recycler discovered the infant inside a plastic bag, with the umbilical cord still attached. The revelation was made while a routine police patrol was passing by, allowing for swift action.
The police, on hearing the recycler's discovery, immediately called the emergency services. The infant was promptly dispatched to the hospital for necessary medical attention. According to the reports, the baby is now stable and doing well.
The case has been forwarded to the Family Violence, Child Protection, and Sexual Offences Unit for a detailed investigation. The provincial police commissioner, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela, has outrightly denounced the inhuman act. She stated that regardless of the circumstances, such merciless behaviour towards an innocent life is deplorable.
The Mpumalanga police force is now urging anyone with information regarding the infant's mother to come forward. They have requested individuals to contact Detective Sergeant Mohlwane at 083 349 2351 or the Crime Stop number at 08600 10111. The public also has the option to send information via MYSAPSAPP.
