Local authorities have launched an investigation into a fatal head-on collision that occurred on the N2, just outside of Jeffreys Bay yesterday. The deceased, a 25-year-old male, was driving his white Suzuki S-Presso towards Humansdorp when he collided with a VW Caddy traveling in the opposite direction.

The horrific accident occurred shortly after 5 a.m. on Monday, according to police spokesperson Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg. Preliminary investigations suggest that the deceased was attempting to overtake another vehicle via a solid white line, a maneuver that contravenes South African traffic regulations.

Upon impact, the young driver succumbed to his injuries at the scene, leaving the community shocked and mourning the untimely loss. The name of the deceased remains withheld, pending notification of the next of kin.

The VW Caddy, carrying a driver and two minor passengers, was also affected significantly in the collision. All occupants sustained serious injuries and were promptly transported to a Gqeberha hospital. Their current health status remains undisclosed.

Captain Janse van Rensburg confirmed that a case of culpable homicide is currently under investigation by the Jeffreys Bay police enforcement, to understand the full sequencing of events leading to this tragic incident.
