Taylor Swift Shines at 2023 MTV Video Music Awards, Sets New Record

It was an exceptional evening for singer-songwriter Taylor Swift at the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards. Held at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, on Tuesday, Swift scooped an impressive nine prizes, setting a historical record as the first person ever to win Video of the Year four times.



She was victorious for Video of the Year and Song of the Year, both for her song "Anti-Hero," as well as the highly-regarded Artist of the Year accolade. Her victory extended to Best Direction, Best Pop, Best Cinematography, and Best Visual Effects—all for the single video, "Anti-Hero."


Upon accepting the Best Pop award, Swift expressed her passion for pop music, and her success in experimenting with various genres. Appreciating her fans for their unwavering support, Swift acknowledged their role in her creative freedom and remarkable career journey.


Swift also made history with her fourth Video of the Year win—a record previously unbroken. Past victories in this category include her songs “All Too Well: The Short Film,” “Bad Blood,” and “You Need to Calm Down.”



Adding to the list of accomplishments were an Album of the Year recognization for "Midnights," and the Show of the Summer award. Swift dedicated her Song of the Year accolade to her long-lasting songwriting partner, Jack Antonoff, who couldn't be in attendance.


Swift, initially nominated for 11 awards, failed to secure Best Editing, which went to Olivia Rodrigo's “Vampire,” and Song of the Summer won by Jungkook and Latto's tune “Seven.”


The evening's other notable winners included Nicki Minaj's “Super Freaky Girl” for Best Hip-Hop, Ice Spice for Best New Artist, and various genre-specific wins for artists such as Anitta, SZA, and Stray Kids.
