Two suspects, aged 33 and 34, are expected to appear in the Cape Town Magistrates’ Court following their involvement in the robbery of a film crew in Observatory. The perpetrators were nabbed in Delft after they were tracked via stolen cellphones from the crime scene, said police spokesperson Frederick Van Wyk.

The incident occurred on Monday night just after 9pm in Lower Main Road where the crew fell victim to the thieves. Essential work items such as cellphones and camera equipment were taken.

The matter was promptly reported to the Woodstock police and a private security company who responded in quick interaction. The stolen cellphones were traced to a petrol station in Delft. The suspects were apprehended in a getaway vehicle at the service station.

Frederick Van Wyk confirmed the recovery of all stolen cellphones from the vehicle. The retrieved phones have since been returned to their lawful owners at SAPS Woodstock.

In a separate incident not associated with the film crew robbery, the Kleinmond SAPS responded to information about illegally possessed firearm and ammunition. A 33-year-old man found in possession of prohibited firearm and rounds of ammunition was taken into custody. This suspect is due to appear in the Caledon Magistrate Court.

Van Wyk stated that further investigation revealed that the firearm was purchased from the wife of a deceased licensed firearm owner. A case against her has been initiated as per the Firearm Control Act no 60 of 2000. The case is purported to be brought under the attention of the senior State prosecutor for an ultimate decision.
