Court proceedings have been initiated against a 33-year-old man named Wernich Botha, who has allegedly beaten two men into unconsciousness, as per the viral video evidence circulated on various social media platforms. The suspect was in the defendant's box at the Klerksdorp Magistrates Court on Thursday.

The incident, which took place in a parking lot at a shopping center in Doornkruin, Klerksdorp, rapidly gained internet traction, prompting Botha's arrest and subsequent first court appearance, mere hours after his detainment.

Botha is being tried on two serious charges - attempted murder and assault, with the intent to inflict grievous bodily harm. The footage exhibits a man, presumed to be Botha, assaulting a 32-year-old before turning his aggression towards a 44-year-old man, reportedly resulting in a concussion and shoulder injury.

Police spokesperson, Colonel Adéle Myburgh confirmed that the younger victim has sustained a brain injury and remains hospitalized. The suspect has since been released on bail, set at R2 000 and is scheduled to return to the Klerksdorp Magistrates Court on October 19.

Both the police and the public have strongly condemned the incident. Authorities request that the dissemination of the viral video be ceased, warning that the visuals may interfere with the integrity of the ongoing investigations. The incident also drew disapproval from the Provincial Commissioner of the North West Province, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena.
