A significant drug bust took place in Worcester, as two individuals were apprehended by the local authorities for trafficking Mandrax reportedly valued around R3 million. The suspects, who are now facing serious charges of drug dealing and trafficking, are due to appear in the Worcester Magistrates’ Court this Wednesday.
Zinzi Hani, the spokesperson for Western Cape, stated that this operation was a coalescent effort by the Hawks from the South African Narcotics Enforcement Bureau team, the Boland K9 unit, and Crime Intelligence. Upon receiving viable tip-offs regarding possible drug trafficking between Gauteng and Cape Town, the team implemented a strategic interception on the N1 highway in Worcester.
Hani elaborated, "A suspicious motor vehicle on the N1 highway was identified during our operation on September 11. Post interception, a thorough search revealed a hidden stash of suspected drugs in the vehicle's boot." The illicit cache included 60,000 single Mandrax tablets and 61 packets of Mandrax, with an impressive estimated street value of R3 million.
The two suspects, aged 46 and 48, were immediately detained. They are now facing ramifications under various drug-related charges and the Drug Trafficking Act 140 of 1992.
