A Klerksdorp resident is fighting for his life after a brutal attack in a local shopping centre parking lot. Hilton Pretorius, 32, suffered severe brain injuries as a result of this relentless assault allegedly carried out by Wernich Botha. Another victim, PW Roos, 44, sustained a shoulder injury and concussion but has since been discharged from the hospital.

The horrifying incident unfolded last week in Doornkruin, Klerksdorp. According to Colonel Adele Myburgh, the local police spokesperson, Botha was apprehended a few days post the incident following a detailed police report.

Myburgh also stated, "Evidence in our pooession shows Botha as the alleged perpetrator, assaulting both Pretorius and Roos." Both victims were immediately taken to a nearby hospital to receive emergency medical attention.

Pretorius, described as a 'beloved father, son, and brother' on a donation page set up to assist with his medical and legal expenses, is currently in intensive care. His condition remains critical with brain bleed and a cracked skull. Sedatives are being administered to manage his pain.

A crowdfunding campaign set up through Back-a-Buddy is offering some respite to this devastating situation. Aimed at helping cover Pretorius's mounting medical bills, it has raised just under R60,000 till now.

Charged with attempted murder and assault with the intent to do grievous bodily harm, Botha has been released on R2,000 bail. His next court appearance is scheduled for October 19.
