In a recent development, ANC Veterans League leaders Mavuso Msimang and Snuki Zikalala have voiced their concerns about an escalating trend within ANC ranks where party leadership holds the apartheid era accountable for contemporary governance shortcomings.
In public statements, both Msimang and Zikalala highlighted their shared belief that blaming past injustice, namely apartheid, for the current failings of the ANC amounted to nothing more than "scapegoating, hogwash, and nonsense." This clear divergence of opinion from the party line seems to signal growing internal dissatisfaction in the ANC's ranks.
In an extensive interview with News24, Msimang recounted his shock and displeasure when Social Development Minister Lindiwe Zulu staunchly subscribed to the aforementioned blame game. Msimang underscored that Zulu had blatantly used the oppressive past to justify the ANC's inability to deliver on its housing mandate to citizens.
