A private security guard, identified as Ridgeley Watson aged 30, fell victim to brutal gunfire on Saturday, in Gqeberha, allegedly over his firearm. Watson was fatally shot multiple times in an incident that took place at a busy intersection consisting of the M14 and Kohler Street in Perseverance, according to spokesperson Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg.
Watson's vehicle, a Nissan NP200, veered off course after the shooting, heading towards a stationary Yaris whose driver was in the process of changing a tyre. The bloody act unfolded in full public view, happening shortly after 2 pm.
It is alleged that the perpetrator reached into Watson's vehicle post-shooting, seized his firearm and hastily exited the crime scene, as stated by Captain Janse van Rensburg.
The driver of the Yaris, who bore witness to the raw brutality of the shooting, immediately alerted the police and judiciously remained at the crime scene until the authorities arrived. Investigations into the violent crime have now been taken up by the Provincial Serious and Violent Crimes Unit, who track down the criminals at large.
The primary proposed motive behind the shooting is robbery, however, the proceedings of a thorough murder investigation are currently underway.
