A reign of terror has been abruptly ended in the Mandela Village of Kwamhlanga, Mpumalanga, as a young gang leader met his brutal end at the hands of local residents. The community was allegedly driven to such radical action due to constant fear and lack of effective police intervention.

The boy, who rose to infamy when he was still in primary school, was annihilated in a gruesome manner by aggrieved residents at a local sports ground on Tuesday, 5 August. He was stoned and burnt to death marking a premature end to his reign as a gang leader.

A local citizen revealed that the deceased was the head of a gang of underage peers whose criminal activities involved mugging, violence, and even murder. "He was a menace to society from a very early age. They would roam around with dangerous weapons instilling fear in the community," said one resident.

Another villager disclosed that just last week, the slain leader was suspected of the brutal killing of another youth from Mandela Village, whose eyes were gruesomely gouged out. "They are very young boys but are capable of such monstrous acts. We could not stand by idly while our community was being terrorised so frequently."

With the death of their leader, the remaining members of the gang have reportedly gone into hiding. However, the villagers remain defiant, singing the same tune, "Our fight against gang violence is not over. We are determined to flush out each and every one of them."

Brigadier Selvy Mohlala confirmed the incident and warned villagers against taking the law into their own hands. A murder case has been opened in relation to the teenager's death. He urged the community to exercise restraint and allow law enforcement agencies to conduct their investigations.
