A Committee of Inquiry is being assembled to delve into the deadly fire that engulfed a Johannesburg building, claiming over 70 lives, including seven children. This tragic incident also landed around 55 others in hospitals around the city. Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi declared the initiation of this process and confirmed his collaboration with the Justice Minister to ensure its establishment.

The government-owned building was said to have been leased to a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) initially, but it was later hijacked under questionable circumstances. As the police pursue their investigation, they are dealing with a matter of epic proportions.

Premier Lesufi expressed his determination to uncover not only who must bear the responsibility for this event but also the root cause that led to such a tragedy. Beyond this specific disaster, he also mentioned his interest in investigating the prevalence of hijacked buildings within the city.

Residents of Johannesburg and indeed the entire country watch on as the committee prepares to interrogate and illuminate the circumstances behind this fatal incident. This inquiry aims to shed light on the factors contributing to the disaster and prevent the repetition of such devastating events in the future.
