NASA Invites Commercial Partnerships to Run Astrobee Robotic System on ISS

NASA has officially announced a call for partnership proposals concerning the operations and maintenance of its Astrobee robotic system housed within the International Space Station (ISS). This initiative marks a significant stride toward enhancing NASA's long-term vision of establishing a robust, commercial space economy. The Astrobee, a free-flying robot aboard the ISS since 2019, performs various tasks autonomously or under the guidance of ground-based flight controllers and researchers. These activities range from inventory management to documentation processes, thereby streamlining astronauts' daily routines and allowing them more time to undertake complex research work and additional experiments.





Astrobee's core makeup consists of three cubic robotic entities, equipped with cameras and sensors to navigate the station's unique microgravity environment, a docking station for recharging, and additional ground-based robots used for software and maintenance testing.
