Yum! Brands, a prominent figure in the fast-food industry, is set to relocate the KFC U.S. corporate headquarters from Louisville, Kentucky, to Plano, Texas. This move was publicly revealed on Tuesday and marks a significant shift for the company, which has been rooted in Louisville since 1997.
The decision to transition the headquarters is part of Yum! Brands' broader strategy to establish two new headquarters in the United States, with the other being in Irvine, California. The relocation aims to "foster greater collaboration among brands and employees." KFC and Pizza Hut teams will now operate from Plano, while Taco Bell and Habit Burger & Grill will continue from Irvine.
David Gibbs, CEO of Yum! Brands, expressed his confidence in the move, emphasizing that it positions the company for sustainable growth and will enhance service to their customers, employees, franchisees, and shareholders. He highlighted the importance of bringing teams together to leverage Yum! Brands' unparalleled culture and talent.
The relocation will impact approximately 100 corporate employees previously based in Louisville, in addition to 90 remote workers who are expected to move within the next 18 months. The move has stirred varying reactions locally. Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg expressed disappointment yet remained optimistic about Yum! Brands' commitment to retaining its broader corporate base and 560 employees in Louisville.
In response to the community's concerns, Yum! Brands has also announced a $1 million endowment to the College of Business at the University of Louisville. Furthermore, KFC plans to maintain a strong brand presence in the city with an innovative, flagship restaurant aimed to lead future expansions.
Greater Louisville Inc. acknowledged the company's profound roots in Louisville and its evolution into a global leader over the last nine decades. Sarah Davasher-Wisdom, president and CEO of the organization, expressed disappointment over the relocation of some employees but remains positive about Yum! Brands' continuous involvement in the region.
With this strategic move, Yum! Brands looks to the future with a focus on integration, collaboration, and continued global growth, balancing its foundational ties with Louisville while expanding its operational horizons to Texas and California.
