China Breaks New Ground with First Humanoid Robot Training Base in Shanghai

China has officially opened its first humanoid robot training facility, dubbed the Humanoid Robot Kylin Training Ground, in Shanghai’s bustling Pudong District. This groundbreaking initiative not only sets a new precedent in the field of robotics but also highlights China's commitment to integrating artificial intelligence (AI) with real-world applications across various sectors.





The center is designed to foster advancements in cross-disciplinary robotics technologies, primarily focusing on AI and machine learning. Initially equipped to train more than 100 humanoid robots, the facility has ambitious plans to expand its capacity to train 1,000 robots by 2027. This significant increase in robotic training capabilities is expected to drive forward China's vision of becoming a global leader in advanced technology and industrial innovation.


In collaboration with local robotics companies, the Kylin Training Ground plans to create a comprehensive dataset comprised of 10 million high-quality physical data entries by 2025. This is particularly pertinent as China faces the challenges of an ageing population and fierce global technological competition. Furthermore, the Kylin Training Ground is not just stopping at training existing technologies. The facility has announced the development of a next-generation humanoid robot, named "Deep Snake," which is expected to exhibit enhanced flexibility and adaptive intelligence. These attributes will potentially enable humanoid robots to perform more nuanced and variable tasks, thereby increasing their deployment in more dynamic environments.


Shanghai’s new training center also comes at a time when China prepares to host the inaugural World Humanoid Robot Sports Games in Beijing later this year (2025). This event will likely showcase the latest advancements in humanoid robotics, bringing together international talents and fostering a new era of global robotics competition.


This initiative in Shanghai underscores China's strategy to meld technological prowess with practical applications, aiming to dominate a market that is expected to reach €11.35 billion by 2030.
