In a case that has riveted the community of Nongoma and beyond, the Nongoma Regional Court has delivered a heavy judgment against a 15-year-old boy convicted of several serious crimes, including the murder of a local school principal. The teenager, whose identity remains protected due to his minor status, will serve 43 years behind bars following a series of tragic events that culminated in the loss of a respected community leader.
The case began to unfold on April 22, 2023, when Alpheus Mphumuzeni Ntuli, a 61-year-old principal of Bhekintinta High School was reported missing. The ensuing police investigation quickly turned grim when Ntuli’s vehicle was spotted and pursued along Mkhuze Road, leading to a tragic discovery near a river bank in the Odwaleni area. Authorities found Ntuli’s body under a bridge, showing signs of severe physical assault.
The rapid police action led them to the suspect's residence in kwaSnqandi, Toyisa area, where they found him in possession of a stolen firearm and ammunition. The items were identified as belonging to his grandfather, highlighting a disturbing chain of illegal activities involving the minor.
Throughout his court appearances, the gravity of his actions became undeniably clear, and after pleading guilty to murder, theft of a firearm, illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition, and robbery with aggravating circumstances, the court sentenced him on November 21, 2024.
