In a bid to intensify the fight against cancer and encourage community participation, Algoa FM, a prominent radio station in South Africa, has made significant efforts to include educational institutions in the upcoming Algoa FM Big Walk for Cancer sponsored by ISUZU MOTORS South Africa. This initiative aims to facilitate the involvement of schools from the Garden Route to the Wild Coast, including regions through the Karoo.
Scheduled for Saturday, October 26, 2024, the Algoa FM Big Walk for Cancer will see synchronous events in George, Nelson Mandela Bay, and East London. Understanding the scheduling conflicts that might deter participation, with sports typically occupying Saturdays for schools, the organizers have created special opportunities for academic bodies to take part in this impactful event.
Institutions signing up for the event will have the chance to win a monetary prize of R10,000 and gain publicity through an interview segment on Algoa FM, where they can showcase their school or college. This initiative not only encourages involvement but also provides an attractive platform for institutions to enhance their community presence and share their narratives.
This year's chosen beneficiaries are the CHOC house in East London as well as the St Bernard’s and St Francis hospices. Charitable efforts such as these provide crucial support and services to those impacted by cancer and their families.
Algoa FM offers two participation modalities for educational establishments ranging from pre-primary levels up to colleges and universities. The first involves organizing a Pink Civvies Day. On this day, individuals wear pink or add a touch of pink to their outfits and donate proceeds to support the Big Walk for Cancer fund. The second allows schools to conduct a virtual Big Walk around their premises and local community.
With an entry fee of R70, participants will not only contribute to a noteworthy cause but will also receive the coveted pink Big Walk T-shirts - a symbol of solidarity in the struggle against cancer. To ensure broad access and hassle-free participation, entry details and further information can be obtained from the Algoa FM website.
For additional assistance or to resolve inquiries, constituents are encouraged to reach out via email at bigwalk@algoafm.co.za. As October approaches, educational bodies across the designated areas are gearing up to step forward in the name of charity, community engagement, and above all, to honor those affected by cancer.
