South Africa Ushers in a New Era of Electricity Regulation with the ERA Act

The landscape of South African energy regulation has taken a significant turn with the promulgation of the Electricity Regulation Amendment (ERA) Act. This legislative milestone, ratified by President Cyril Ramaphosa, heralds the official commencement of reforms poised to reshape the nation's electricity market. The core of the ERA Act is the inception of an autonomous State-owned Transmission System Operator (TSO) within the next five years.
