In recent months, the GRDM has undertaken a strategic push to secure financial support for its cause, resulting in the successful acquisition of R1.75 million in LGSETA Discretionary Grant funding. This funding is set to enrich the professional lives of 50 municipal officials who have accumulated invaluable practical experience in firefighting but lack the formal qualifications to encapsulate their expertise.
The RPL programme, crafted with diligence and foresight, offers these officials a pathway to be duly recognized—an acknowledgment of their on-the-ground expertise evaluated against a regulated occupational standard. The end goal for participants is to achieve an accredited Occupational Certificate: Fire Fighter NQF Level 4, through the facilitation of GRDM, an accredited provider and examination center in this field.
The process of recognition integrates existing competencies of officials, as they are taken through the paces of theoretical and practical assessments aimed at closing the gap between experiential knowledge and formality.
