Eastern Cape SAPS Honours Fallen Constable Sivuyile Tshaka

The somber atmosphere permeated through Ntabankulu as the Eastern Cape South African Police Service (SAPS) paid tribute to Constable Sivuyile Tshaka, who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. The memorial service, laden with sorrow and respect, took place today, seeing the community and prestigious SAPS officials unite to celebrate the life and bravery of a man who fell while serving his country.

Tshaka, whose sense of discipline and passion for his work was unparalleled, lost his life in a harrowing incident in Mbizana, where he and his colleagues faced about 20 assailants in what was described as an ambush at a filling station. Despite the tragic circumstances, Tshaka's dedication to ensuring the safety of others was prominently honored in the emotional eulogies delivered.

Lieutenant General Nomthetheleli Mene, the Eastern Cape Provincial Commissioner, alongside her management team, stood in solidarity with Tshaka's mourning family, embodying the stance of unwavering support for their members. Mene highlighted the courage displayed by the injured officers during the incident and vowed that the department’s quest for justice would be relentless, promising the community that SAPS’s resolve to combat crime would only strengthen following this tragedy.

Addressing the gathered mourners, Mene issued a stern warning to those behind the attack, stating that policing strategies would be reinforced to guarantee safety and increased visibility. She urged society to participate in rooting out illicit weapons and called for unity in addressing the social malaise of violence.

The family’s pain was visible, and yet there was a profound appreciation for the support received from SAPS. Warrant Officer (Rev) Wisani, the SAPS Chaplain, offered spiritual solace, while Mr. Tshaka, speaking on behalf of the family, extended heartfelt thanks to the police force for their compassion during the darkest of times.
