An exhaustive search operation is in progress off the coast of Cape Point, South Africa, for six fishermen who vanished over the weekend. The National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI), along with various other organizations, has been scouring the sea since being alerted to their disappearance on Sunday morning.

Family members and fellow fishermen from Hout Bay and Hawston raised the alarm after the men failed to return from their fishing expedition. They were reportedly out at sea in a grey 7.8-meter rigid hull inflatable boat.

Craig Lambinon, a spokesperson for the NSRI, informed the public that there were indications the fishermen may have headed deep sea South or South West of Cape Point late Saturday evening. The situation spurred an urgent and comprehensive response from multiple agencies.

The ongoing search operation includes resources and support from the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre, Transnet National Ports Authority Cape Town Port Control, the South African Police Service, and their Sea Borderline Control and Water Policing and Diving Services. These teams are working in unison, meticulously plotting search grids over the vast area where the fishermen were believed to have been casting their lines.

Despite the massive multi-agency effort, which leverages the capabilities of NSRI rescue craft, commercial fishing vessels, motor boats, and the involvement of recreational fishermen, the search has yet to yield any trace of the missing men or their boat.

Adding to the extensive maritime effort, Telkom Maritime Radio Services has initiated an all ships marine VHF radio broadcast, which serves to alert nearby vessels to be on the lookout for the fishermen and their missing inflatable boat. The local maritime community, including Ski-Boat Mobile groups, has been instrumental in disseminating information, urging all vessels at sea to report any potential sightings.

Authorities and involved parties have been lauded for their collaborative response and enduring commitment to the search. Families of the missing men have since filed official missing persons reports in the hope of a resolution to this distressing situation.
