Cape Town's creative heartbeat is set to pulsate at the Castle of Good Hope this weekend as the City partners with the historic site to launch the monthly Kuier@TheCastle market. Aiming to showcase and celebrate local talent, this event is the newest addition to Cape Town's vibrant culture and tourism scene.

Starting Saturday, February 24, locals and tourists alike can meander through stalls teeming with artisanal goods, bask in live entertainment, and indulge in culinary delights from 9 am to 4 pm. Representing not just a market but a movement, Kuier@TheCastle embodies the city's commitment to its creatives—designers, chefs, musicians, and more. By providing them a magnificent stage set against the backdrop of the Castle and Table Mountain, the market promises to be a feast for the senses and a boon for local enterprise.

James Vos, the City’s Mayco Member for Economic Growth, conveys his enthusiasm for this initiative, emphasizing Cape Town's rich pool of talent and Kuier@TheCastle's role in helping these creatives reach new audiences.

Ensuring a truly multisensory experience, Erica Elk, CEO of the Craft + Design Institute (CDI), envisions the market as a kaleidoscope of sights, sounds, and flavors—inviting everyone to immerse in the Castle's magic and explore its transformed space that once echoed with a very different part of Cape Town's history.

Calvyn Gilfellan, CEO of the Castle, expresses his anticipation for the market's unique potential to unify people through Ubuntu's spirit—a philosophy highlighting our shared humanity and interconnectedness. By placing strong emphasis on accessibility, learning, and unity, the market is a contemporary expression of embracing a collective future while honoring the past.

To facilitate the experience for all attendees, the Castle has set the entry fees at an affordable R30 for adults, with children and pensioners enjoying a reduced rate of R15, and children under seven having free access. This pricing strategy aims to encourage inclusivity and ensure that Kuier@TheCastle is a destination for the entire community.

The City is not resting on its laurels; it seeks to expand the market's ambitiously woven fabric. They are actively inviting vendors—crafters of crafts, purveyors of taste, and creators of joy—to apply for future market days through the CDI on the market's dedicated website, www.kuiermarket.com.

Kuier@TheCastle market stands as a testament to Cape Town's dedication to its cultural artisans and the vibrant patchwork of its community. With the promise of regular monthly markets, the Castle of Good Hope is poised to become not only a landmark of the past but a pulsating hub of contemporary Cape culture and a must-visit destination for anyone yearning for authentic local experiences.
