Russia Claims Victory in Avdiivka Amid Intense Urban Warfare

In a recent declaration that signifies their most substantial territorial advancement since May 2023, Russian officials claimed to have assumed full control of the strategic Ukrainian town of Avdiivka. This marks a pivotal moment in the ongoing conflict, which is on the brink of entering its third year.

The battle for Avdiivka, a town previously held by Ukrainian forces, has been one of the fiercest confrontations of the war to date. According to the Russian Ministry of Defence, their troops have pushed forward 8.6 kilometers along the extensive 1,000-kilometer frontline, resulting in near-complete depopulation and devastation of the town.
