Eastern Cape Police Officer Slain in West Bank Drive-By Shooting

In a harrowing turn of events, the Eastern Cape community of West Bank has been rocked by the cold-blooded murder of a female police officer and a Good Samaritan during a drive-by shooting on Sunday. The violence unfolded while the deceased officer, a 38-year-old Sergeant stationed at SAPS Kidds Beach, along with her colleagues, had their patrol interrupted by a puncture on Settlers Way.

As they awaited help, a kind-hearted 50-year-old motorist stopped to offer his aid, allowing the officers to take refuge in his vehicle. It was then that the assailants, driving a BMW, pulled alongside the parked car and mercilessly opened fire. The Sergeant and the helpful motorist succumbed to their injuries, while two other police officials, a reservist Sergeant and a Constable, miraculously emerged unscathed from the chaos.

Lieutenant-Colonel Siphokazi Mawisa, the SAPS spokesperson, informed the public that the suspects fled the scene immediately after the attack and remain at large. With the investigation in its nascent stages, the motive behind this ruthless act is yet to be ascertained. The authorities have since launched two separate cases of murder and two cases of attempted murder as they work tirelessly to apprehend those responsible.
