In a significant move to bolster tourism and economic development in the Western Cape, Cape Town Air Access, a division of Wesgro, has strategically partnered with leading African online travel agency, Travelstart. This collaboration aims to amplify the allure of the Garden Route and Klein Karoo by offering travellers attractive airfare discounts and enhanced travel planning through advanced technology.

Starting in November 2023 and resuming from February to mid-June 2024, holidaymakers, explorers, and families are set to benefit as airfares to these iconic South African destinations will be discounted by as much as R400 per person. Specially curated flights to George Airport will commence at an average of R579, making the picturesque landscapes of the Garden Route and Klein Karoo more accessible to South Africans and international visitors alike.

A notable and innovative feature of this campaign is the integration with Travelstart's AI travel assistant – a pioneering tool in Africa for the travel industry. The technology is designed to empower travellers with the ability to personalize their itineraries effectively, tap into rich destination advice, and unlock a plethora of budget-friendly activities. This AI travel companion is set to transform the way visitors interact with and experience the Western Cape's diverse attractions.

Wrenelle Stander, Wesgro CEO and spokesperson for Cape Town Air Access, highlights that the utilization of AI is a testament to their commitment to innovation. It personifies their initiative to showcase Cape Town and the Western Cape as prominent travel hubs on both the domestic and international stages. She acknowledges the critical role that public-private partnerships like these play in stimulating economic growth, preserving employment, and catalyzing regional development.

Embracing this campaign, Alderman Leon van Wyk, Mayor of George, reflects on the variety of offerings of the town's enthralling environment. With a plethora of outdoor pursuits, gastronomic wonders, golfing greens, and artistic and historical experiences, the region encapsulates a wide array of attractions from Herolds Bay's coastal charm to Victoria Bay's surfing hotspots, and further beyond to the Klein Karoo's rugged beauty.

Both local authorities and industry partners anticipate that the campaign will not only bring the area to the forefront of potential travellers' minds but also contribute to increased tourism revenue and job creation. The aim goes beyond mere exposure, hoping to transform the Garden Route and Klein Karoo into destinations of choice for discerning travellers seeking variety, adventure, and culture.

As part of this joint initiative, travellers can anticipate a seamless experience from flight bookings to adventures on the ground. The Western Cape is readying itself for a surge in visitor numbers, hoping the low airfares and high-tech itinerary planning garner wide appeal and give tourists compelling reasons to discover the magic of the region.
