Israeli authorities reveal that soldier Ori Megidish, who was taken captive by the Palestinian armed group, Hamas, during their October 7 assault, has regained freedom. Her release happened during ongoing ground interactions in the beset Gaza Strip. The soldier is reportedly doing well and has reunited with her family.

In an announcement released on Monday, the Israeli army declared, “Ori Megidish, kidnapped by Hamas on October 7, has been released and is doing well following medical checks." The authorities stopped short of sharing detailed insights, providing no specifics regarding the circumstances leading up to her liberation.

Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, shared a photograph of Megidish alongside her family. While no military particulars were given, it was noted that over the recent days, there’s been an escalation in Israeli ground raids in Gaza.

Congratulatory messages poured in for the IDF and Shin Bet from Energy Minister, Israel Katz, on social media for a successful operation that saw the brave soldier returned home.

This victory was clouded by a disturbing development. A mere hours following Megidish's release, Hamas released a video showcasing three hostages still imprisoned within Gaza’s borders.

According to Israel's accounts, the October 7 attack resulted in more than 230 individuals—including foreign nationals, civilians, and Israeli soldiers—being held captive by Hamas. Israel reported more than 1,400 fatalities from the assault, predominantly non-combatants.

In retaliation, Israel enacted an aggressive airstrike campaign over Gaza, restricting access to necessities like water, food, fuel, and electricity for the 2.3 million inhabitants of the area, governed by Hamas since 2007.

Claiming over 8,300 lives, the majority being civilians, the Israeli bombardments have resulted in the demolition of entire neighborhoods, as reported by the health ministry of Gaza. Israeli ground operations within Gaza have also registered a notable uptick this past week.

On Monday in Gaza City's outskirts, Israeli machinery was viewed on Salah al-Din Street temporarily. A recording of the invasion verified by Al Jazeera encapsulates a tank detonating a car attempting to leave the area.

The operation has also drawn criticism from Salama Maarouf, the head of the Hamas government office, stating that Israeli machines targeted two civilian vehicles and bulldozed a section of road "before the resistance forced them to retreat."
