In a surprising revelation, pop star Britney Spears, 41, has confirmed that she went through an abortion while dating former boyfriend, Justin Timberlake. This revelation comes from an excerpt of her much-anticipated memoir, The Woman in Me, set to release on 24th October.
The book dives deep into the various critical experiences of Britney's life, including the controversial conservatorship that controlled her life and finances for 14 years. As quoted from the excerpt released by People magazine on Tuesday, Britney pens, "If it had been left up to me alone, I never would have done it." She further adds that Justin was adamant that he was not ready for fatherhood.
In the memoir, Britney reminisces about meeting Timberlake during their time as child actors on Disney's Mickey Mouse Club. The duo started dating in their late teens and became one of the highest-profile couples in the entertainment industry. They parted ways in 2002.
The memoir throws light on Timberlake's disapproval of the pregnancy, asserting their unpreparedness for parenthood at a young age. The experience of abortion is still one of the most distressing incidents Britney has ever endured.
Representatives for Timberlake, who is now 42 and married to actress Jessica Biel, have yet to comment.
Following her partnership with Timberlake, Britney had two sons from her second marriage to Kevin Federline. After suffering a public breakdown in 2008, Britney was subjected to a unique legal guardianship ruled mainly by her father, Jamie.
In a court appearance last year, Britney claimed that the conservatorship obstructed her attempts to remove a contraceptive IUD despite her desire for another child. In November 2021, the restraining conservatorship was finally dissolved. However, Britney suffered another tragic loss in 2022 — a miscarriage.
Britney's third marriage to Sam Asghari ended in divorce in August, amid allegations of infidelity and abuse.
