A rising star in science and engineering has emerged from the suburb of Brackenfell. 15-year-old Jessica Visser, a student at Protea Heights Academy, successfully presented an automated pool chlorinator equipped with a feedback control loop at the prestigious Eskom Expo International Science Fair.
Jessica's novel invention comes as an efficient solution for pool owners. The automated pool chlorinator uses a calibrated probe to measure and regulate chlorine levels in the pool. Whenever the levels plummet, the system automatically dispenses the correct dosage of chlorine. This game-changing technology stipulates minimal human intervention; owners need only install the device and refill the chlorine container when necessary.
At the science fair, the young inventor's efforts were recognized with a R10,000 RS voucher awarded by RS South Africa. Representing the Eskom Expo Stellenbosch region, Jessica also received a silver medal. A thrilled Jessica hopes that her success story will inspire other young scientists to pursue their passion and be innovative.
The young innovator, who aspires to become an engineer, expressed her joy by saying, "I was ecstatic to see that my hard work paid off, and I really appreciate all the recognition that I received for my project." Jessica’s innovation indeed stands as a strong testament to the potential and ingenuity held by the youth of Protea Heights Academy and the Brackenfell community at large.
