A wave of sorrow and deep respect has swept over both South Africa and Israel as news broke of Sa’ar Margolis', untimely death. The South African born man was one of two individuals confirmed killed in the recent Hamas attack on Israel.
Sa’ar Margolis, aged 37, though born in South Africa, had made Israel his homeland, working as a part of the security standby team in Kibbutz Kissufim, located close to the Gaza strip. Following his tragic death, loved ones have moved to ensure that his story of bravery is heard worldwide.
According to a heartfelt post from his friend Alex Kogan on Facebook, Sa'ar's wife pleaded for his heroic acts to be shared. She described her late husband as a hero to all, emphasizing his bravery when facing the horrendous attacks. Upon the assault, Sa’ar left his safe room aiming to protect his home and the lives of those within it, successfully preventing a larger tragedy before falling in combat.
Numerous tribute posts from Margolis' elder sister, Beora Margolis, outlined the deep level of hurt felt by the family, especially when interacting with his bereaved children. She expressed her deep regret, mourning the loss of her younger brother, and lamenting the circumstances under which he had so tragically been taken from them.
The Israeli emergency medical services organization, Magen David Adom (MDA), for whom Margolis had previously worked, echoed this sentiment, stating that his death was a tragic loss. The organization was assisting him in obtaining an ambulance driver's license, certifying his dedication to aiding others.
The other South African confirmed killed in the attack is indeed Marcelle Talia, 65 who was in Israel to visit her newborn granddaughter.
Sa’ar Margolis has been remembered for his unwavering bravery, and the life he gave in the service of those around him. His sacrifices have been immortalized as loved ones continue to share his tale. His memory serves as a poignant reminder of the ongoing conflict and the scores of individuals directly affected by it.
