The South African national rugby team, popularly known as the Springboks, saw the return of robust centre, Lukhanyo Am to their ranks in Toulon on Wednesday. The team, maintaining a commanding position at the top of Pool B after four matches with 15 match points, has resumed their rigorous training, focusing on the impending Rugby World Cup quarterfinals.

With Ireland and Scotland trailing behind by one and five points respectively, and due for a face-off in the pool decider at Stade de France on Saturday, the Boks have their sights trained on the prize.

The Springboks took a two-day hiatus after wrapping up a demanding 49-18 victory against Tonga in Marseille on Sunday, marking the close of the pool stage. With Wednesday marking their return to training, they were joined by Am, who is replacing flanker Makazole Mapimpi, nursing a fractured cheekbone that abruptly ended his World Cup campaign.

Referring to Am's arrival, Felix Jones, the assistant coach of Springboks stated, "He’s an experienced player and he’s been part of the group for many years, so we’ll bank on his experience and his ability to do the job for us.”

Despite not having a game scheduled for the current week, Jones revealed that their training programme was akin to an average week, carved to include three hard training days and selective rest periods.

In the interim of awaiting their quarterfinal opponents, Springbok utility back, Grant Williams voiced his comfort with the team situation, emphasising their focus on self-improvement.

Sharks scrumhalf and Springboks member welcomed his provincial teammate, praising Am as a strong leader, and illustrating the positive morale upon his return to the team fold.
