Airports Company South Africa (ACSA) has received an unwavering nod of approval from the Competition Commission to buy BP South Africa's (bpSA) fuel supply assets located at George Airport and King Phalo Airport in East London.

The spokesperson for the Commission, Siyabulela Makunga, stated that ACSA, although not directly involved in aviation fuel supply activities, oversees the nomination of operators at both airport sites. He reported that bpSA had been leasing the premises at the two airports from ACSA, installing all immovable aspects, and acquiring the requisite movable assests needed to operate the sites that now encompass the target assets.

Makunga added, "The Commission found that the proposed transaction is unlikely to result in substantial prevention or lessening of competition in any relevant markets.” This statement comes amid concerns of potential market manipulation in the aviation fuel sector, which have been allayed by the Commission's detailed analysis and investigation.

Furthering this sentiment, the spokesperson highlighted that the Commission had also discerned no public interest concerns relating to the proposed transaction, successfully clearing the way for ACSA's acquisition of bpSA's assets in the invigorated step towards greater self-sufficiency for the nation's aviation sector.
