Renowned South African retailer Pick ‘n Pay has announced the return of former CEO, Sean Summers, 15 years after his departure from the company. Summers, with his impressive retail experience, is expected to refuel the company's thriving path, which he guided for over a decade during his last spell. Under his leadership, Pick ‘n Pay enjoyed an undisputed dominance in the retail sector.

The decision to bring Summers back falls under the bold strategy by Gareth Ackerman, the Chairman of Pick ‘n Pay, exhibiting an approach to manage the challenges in the South African economy. Summers and Ackerman's serve the shared history and affinity of challenging economic mismanagement, a quality inherited from Ackerman's late father, Raymond.

After his 2007 exit from Pick ‘n Pay, Summers made a significant entry to retailing when hired by Steinhoff International, the multi-billion dollar retail giant, where he managed the UK beds and furniture business of over 450 stores. Despite turbulence and eventual exit of Steinhoff’s CEO Markus Jooste, Summers managed to steady the biggest asset, Mattress Firm.

Summers steps in to lead Pick 'n Pay, replacing Pieter Boone, as his experience from working alongside Pick 'n Pay’s founder Raymond Ackerman for 33 years makes him a formidable force in the retail industry, promising a transformation through his combative leadership style.
