The Automobile Association (AA) has issued a warning of an imminent increase in the price of diesel for the fourth consecutive month. Petrol and illuminating paraffin prices will also rise, marking their third successive month of incline. According to unaudited fuel data revealed by the Central Energy Fund, AA spokesperson Layton Beard specified that diesel is expected to surge around R1.60 per litre, while petrol is set to escalate by approximately 75 to 80 cents per litre depending on the grade. Illuminating paraffin will likely witness a hike of R1.50 per litter.
Despite the role of the weakening Rand/US Dollar exchange rate, Beard emphasized that these substantial alterations primarily are due to rising international oil prices. With many South Africans planning their year-end holidays, Beard stressed the importance of adequate budget planning for fuel expenses due to the potential for further hikes in November and December.
The official adjustment of fuel prices for October is expected next Wednesday. As South Africa grapples with these increasing fuel costs, consumers are urged to plan their finances wisely, preparing for what seems to be continual fuel price escalations in the foreseeable future.
